Having read the same author’s ‘The kite runner’, I knew what I was getting in for. It did not disappoint me in a bit. The characters were there, the appropriate soul stirring plot was present and there were moments which would leave the common man misty eyed with ease. The problem with me was that it didn’t work the way I had hoped. Maybe I have been reading more than the usual or maybe I need a break from everything, reading included. I feel like I should quit reading for a while but then I wouldn’t have anything left for me. I understand the point now when everything stops working, including the only thing that worked. Maybe I shall switch to teen fiction for a while, a little no brainers for some time. Or I shall just quit, don’t know. I feel like a Sumire now.
On with the story, it is based on Kabul during the late twentieth century. Mariam and Laila, two completely different individuals with a difference of twenty years and being wives of a repulsive old man, discover their strengths within each other and move ahead.
I wish I could afford to write more than this but my mind doesn’t permit it seems.
